Spear Party Raises over £300,000

The 2015 Spear Party raised over £300,000 to help hundreds more young people into work through the Spear programme.

The Japanese-themed evening was a great success – guests were treated to entertainment from magician, Dynamo, who joined us in the middle of his sold-out tour and wowed the audience. We were also joined by mime artist, The Boy with Tape on his Face, and renowned Japanese drummers, Taiko Meantime.

Later in the evening, eighteen-year-old Spear member, Lee, told guests how Spear helped him to get his life back together after a near-fatal stabbing left him paranoid and not wanting to leave the house. He found out about Spear when his mum took him to the job centre: “When I arrived at Spear it wasn’t like anything else I’d seen before. The coaches were brilliant. They just made me forget about everything else that had happened.”

Lee is now studying Business Level 3 at college and working part-time – his first ever job. He said, “Spear gave me a vision for the future… I felt like a different person after I finished Spear.”

Another highlight of the evening was the auction – with guests bidding on lots ranging from a week in a luxury ski chalet to the chance to sponsor a group of young people through Spear.

Resurgo Chief Executive, Tom Jackson, said, “I want to say a huge thank to you to all the very generous donors who gave at this year’s Spear Party. The event is designed to help guests see first-hand the real change Spear has on the lives of disadvantaged young people. The money raised will help more young people like Lee to raise their aspirations and get into work through the Spear programme.”
