Former Spear Trainee Walking 200 Miles to Fundraise for the Spear Programme

A remarkable former Spear trainee, Matt, is currently halfway through a thirteen-day trek from North London to North Wales to raise money for Resurgo, in support of the Spear programme.

Matt has decided to fundraise so that more young people can benefit from doing the The Spear Programme which, he says, had a hugely positive impact on his life.

After being asked to leave sixth form, Matt wasn’t sure what direction his life was going to take. He was unemployed for two years, during which he lost direction: “I’d wake up in the afternoon, play a computer game or watch TV and speak to friends via instant messaging, eat, then sleep” he said.

Matt said, “I realise now that doing The Spear Programme in 2015 was the best decision I’ve made in my entire life. It gave me confidence in the skills that I possess, often times highlighting them to me, but also helping me to expand beyond my comfort zone.”

Matt said, “I am proud to still be in employment with Manpower three years down the line and I have never stopped using the lessons learned at Spear. This walk is an opportunity for me to give something back.”

Matt is undertaking this solo trek of almost 200 miles to raise vital funds for Resurgo and The Spear Programme. If you’d like to follow Matt’s progress, or even sponsor him, he is posting updates on his Just Giving page.
