How long have you been volunteering for Spear?
Since March 2012, so almost four years.
How did you first get involved?
I’m interested in politics but I was looking for a way to make a practical difference as well as just talking about social justice and so on. I googled all sorts of things and eventually Googled “volunteer help NEETs Hammersmith”, and found you.
What sort of things have you helped with?
I mock-interview people who are soon to complete their Spear course and give them a chance to practise their interview skills before they go out and interview for real jobs.
What inspires you about working with Spear and Resurgo?
It’s very rewarding. First, it makes me grateful for all the privileges of education and opportunity that I have. Secondly, it’s lovely to meet young people who I would never normally meet and help them see what’s possible for their life. Thirdly, Spear has been extraordinarily successful and it’s exciting to be a part of that success.
What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?
Try it. You’ll love it!
